Minister of Communications and Labor Marios Demetriades visited Larnaca on Monday. He announced, that the process of pre-selection of the developer for the development and maintenance of the pier and port of Larnaca should be completed by the end of the week.
The announcement follows more than 25 years of delays. Caused by legal disputes and bureaucracy, and the withdrawal of the consortium that received the contract in 2008. It could not find the necessary funds.
It was announced that it had received five proposals of interest to various joint ventures.
The new plan for the marina and port of Larnaca was announced by the Ministry of Transport in January 2017, and the marina will be the largest in Cyprus, where there will be up to 1,000 vessels. The project will include construction of up to 510,000 square meters and can include the construction of a large number of small and medium-sized apartments, several luxury villas, a hotel, offices and a commercial center.
